Himalayan Highland Arabica – Green Beans

Über uns

My name is Dil Kumari Duwadi and I have recently started farming coffee on my land in Hansapur, Ghorka. I don't have many plants, only a few for now and they yield around 20kg of green beans per year. I am still learning the art of coffee farming and I'm constantly trying to improve my skills in the coffee processing as well. This is not always easy due to the inaccessibility of the useful information, but I’m trying as best as I can. In our village farmers share their knowledge about agriculture and this is how we learn the most.

Unsere Philosophie

We live off our precious land and we would like to continue to do so. Life of a farmer is not always easy, but when we get good value for our labor, we know we are doing the right thing.

Arbeitsweise

Dil Kumari Duwadi

My husband and I produce rice, oranges and cardamom as our main crops, but we would love to invest more time and effort in coffee farming in the future, especially if the demand for it continues to grow. On our farm we don’t use any artificial fertilizers and chemical pesticides; our soil is extremely fertile and so far we haven’t had any problems with insects and pests.

Dil Kumari Duwadi

I don't have many plants, only a few for now and they yield around 20kg of green beans per year. I am still learning the art of coffee farming and I'm constantly trying to improve my skills in the coffee processing as well. This is not always easy due to the inaccessibility of the useful information, but I’m trying as best as I can. In our village farmers share their knowledge about agriculture and this is how we learn the most. Together with my husband we started coffee farming when other farmers from the village began to plant coffee seedlings in their land as well. Someone brought many seedlings from the agricultural union office around six years ago and they are now spread around the village. Three years ago our coffee plants have started to bear cherries and since that time we haven’t bought tea. We drink coffee instead; we drink it in winter and summer as well.

Comment by Fairdirect e.V.: Due to the remoteness of her farm with no proper Internet access, and due to lack of a computer, Dil Kumari Duwadi lets her webshop be managed by the Fairdirect e.V. association. We have interviewed Dil Kumari Duwadi and translated and edited the shop and product descriptions from that. As always with sales facilitated by Fairdirect e.V., the contract will be between you and the farmer – Fairdirect will not be party to it. You can contact Eva Pivač <eva.pivac@fairdirect.org>, our manager of the Hansapur shipment center, with your questions regarding this webshop. You can also contact Dil Kumari Duwadi directly at her mobile phone number. You may need a Nepali translator to communicate with her.
